Hike of the Month: explore the spiritual journey of life

Ipsut Creek

Ipsut falls

  Distance:   6 miles
  Time:   0 hours
  Elevation Gain:   2800 ft
  Rating:

Description:
The first 3 miles is a gentle climb following Ipsut Creek through a forest of some impressively large hemlock and fir. This section has a nice rain forest feel to it. Ipsut Falls is a quick detour of just a few steps off of the trail. The last mile up to the Pass is out of the forest and up a little steeper graded switchback with lots of flowers and a view. Overall, this trail is closer to Seattle yet less crowded than some other areas of MNRP.

Directions:
Take SR165 through Buckley and Wilkeson and then at the fork (one way goes to the Carbon River entrance, the other to Mowich Lake entrance) go to the Carbon River entrance to Mt Ranier NP and then continue on to Ipsut Creek campground at the end of road (about 5 miles). NOTE: The road to the campground is closed to vehicle traffic just inside the park boundary. This adds 5 miles of walking or bicycling to get to the trailhead, (10 miles round trip).
